Losing text messages on iPhone is as easy as losing any other files on PC or your other phones. Fortunately, beginning with iOS 16, Apple has progressively made it much easier to retrieve deleted text messages than ever before.

Nonetheless, do not be worried even if you lose some of those precious text messages from iPhone 14 by accidental deletion. This is because there are still many more ways to recover messages from iOS devices.  For instance, a data recovery app for your iPhone will come in handy anytime you are faced with a similar emergency.

Method 1: Check the Recently Deleted Folder

Many times, when you delete messages from your iPhone, they will be first taken to the recently deleted folder. This folder is available in the messages app on iOS 14 and works in a similar way as the Recycle bin in PC.

All the text messages you delete either by mistake or intentionally will be stored in this folder for 30 days. After 30 days, they will be permanently deleted.

You should be able to find the Recently Deleted folder in the final column of the Messages Window, appearing under the unread messages box. To proceed with recovery, go to the messages window and hit the “Recently Deleted” icon.

The next open screen contains all the texts that were deleted from your iPhone recently, not more than 30 days ago. Choose the texts you desire to restore. Remember that this will only be possible if the messages appear in the list. Follow the steps below to proceed with your iPhone data recovery.

Step 1: Click on the “Edit” icon appearing on the top left corner in the messages app.

Step 2: Click on the “recently Deleted” icon to open a list of all the recently deleted text messages.

Step 3: Select the texts containing the messages you want to restore by clicking on the circles besides them.

Step 4: Click “Recover Messages” to confirm.

Step 5: The text messages will be recovered and returned to their original storage location.

Method 2: Recover Deleted Text Messages without Backup

Other than using the recently deleted folder, you can also restore deleted messages with a third-party software. Disk Drill developed by Cleverfiles is one such app you can easily and effectively use to restore the messages.

The software employs versatile algorithms that make it easy to retrieve deleted text messages on iPhone 14 without a backup. The software comes with features that can scan the phone deeply for deleted messages.

Some of the forms of data you can recover with Disk Drill include photos, call logs, contacts, notes, text messages, whatsapp chats and many more. Try this iPhone data recovery app and you will be happy with how high its success rate can be. To proceed, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Download and Install Disk Drill for PC

To recover deleted text messages effectively, begin by downloading and installing the software to your PC. The software can be downloaded from the official Cleverfiles website. Remember, the app works well on both Mac and Windows computers.

Step 2: Connect the iPhone 14 to PC

Now launch the software and connect the iPhone 14 to the PC. Once it is properly connected, click the “Start Scan” icon under the phone image to initiate the scanning process.

Step 3: Scan the iPhone 14 to find deleted texts

Allow the app to scan the iPhone completely. The files that are discovered by the scan will be organized differently. Check the left menu for the categories and to also find out the number of text messages were found by the application.

Step 4: Select deleted Text Messages to recover

Disk Drill makes it easier to view recovered files by showing you a preview window. To retrieve the texts, check the boxes next to the names appearing in the center section then tap the “Recover” icon to complete the process. If prompted, choose a different location for the messages recovered.

Method 3: Restore deleted messages with a backup using iCloud

To recover lost messages on iPhone 14 with this method, you will need a clear backup history. If enabled on your phone, iPhone 14 will perform automatic backup of all your messages. You can change this in settings. To proceed with restore, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Go to settings to confirm that the messages were backed up before they were deleted. Open settings, followed by Apple ID Profile, then move to iCloud and finally iCloud Backup. Check the last successful backup date and proceed to step 2 if backup was created successfully on a date earlier than when the texts were deleted.

Step 2: Open the settings app and click “General.”

Step 3: Scroll to the lower part of the page and select “Transfer or Reset iPhone.”

Step 4: Click “Erase all content and Settings.”

Step 5: When a dialog box pops up to confirm, click “Erase Now.” Your iPhone should begin to restore to factory settings and erase all content.

Step 6: When the iPhone reboots, follow the instructions on the screen until you see “Apps & Data” appearing.

Step 7: Click on the “Restore from iCloud Backup.”

Step 8: In the “Choose Backup” section, choose the backup with the text messages you deleted.

Conclusion

Recovering deleted text messages from an iPhone can be very effortless especially if you have an existing backup. Good luck with your recovery journey.
